Joseph Pilates was a boxer, gymnast, studied yoga and martial arts. He was born frail with asthma, and with great will and desire transformed himself. Pilates has proven itself invaluable not only as a fitness endeavor itself, but also as an adjunct to professional sports training and physical rehabilitation of all kinds. With over 500 exercises in the Method's repertoire, this discipline lends itself to all fitness levels from post-rehab individuals and the deconditioned to elite athletes.
All programs are tailored according to individual assessments of your needs and your condition. My students range from the highly deconditioned looking for a safe container to train within, to expert movers looking to sharpen their edge. Exercises are performed on spring-assisted apparatus called the reformer, the trapeze table, the chair, the ped-o-pul, the Fuseladder, as well as on a variety of barrels. The main goal is core strengthening and increasing flexibilitySIMULTANEOUSLY. As side benefits, Pilates training also reduces stress, relieves back pain, improves muscular coordination and balance, heightens mental concentration, body awareness and enhances focus.
